How to Help Someone in Crisis

Ask Directly

Don't be afraid to ask someone directly: "Are you thinking about suicide?" Research shows that asking this question does not plant the idea — it opens the door to help.

Listen Without Judgment

Let them talk. You don't need to have the perfect words. Simply being present and listening — without dismissing, minimizing, or arguing — makes a profound difference.

Stay With Them

Don't leave someone in crisis alone. Help them call a crisis line together, or take them to the emergency room. Your presence matters more than you know.

LoveLikeReed Can Also Help
